B’ruchim Haba’im! We welcome you! In our Torah it is written “and you will teach them diligently to your children.” It is this scriptural basis that provides the inspiration for our Religious School. The goal of Jewish education within the Reform Movement is the deepening of Jewish experience and knowledge for all Jews, in order to strengthen faith in God, love of Torah, and identification with the Jewish people through involvement in the synagogue and participation in Jewish life. We seek to instill in the children of Shir Ami an appreciation of their place in the historic, present and future contexts of the Jewish people; pride in their Jewish identity; and the value of joining in the greater Jewish community. Torah, Israel, Holidays, Hebrew and Liturgy, Jewish Ethics and Jewish History are the basis for the curriculum. Our loving and caring teachers treat each child with kavod, respecting and nurturing individual needs and abilities. Students participate in Purimspiel, Religious School Passover Seder, Tu B’Shevat Seder, Religious School Shabbat, Sukkot, and other events, as well as performing Mitzvah projects.
For the 2018-2019 school year, we will continue to have classes on Sunday morning for all students and an additional class on Wednesdays to meet our older student’s needs as they prepare for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
Our teachers are well seasoned professionals with years of teaching experience in Religious School and other Jewish Institutions. Our class size is small, usually from 6-12 students, which assures the personal attention we are noted for. We also offer many more classes during the year than other Religious Schools in Austin.
- Sundays: All classes meet 9-11am
- Wednesdays: Older students (9-13 year-olds) meet 5-7pm
