Congregation Shir Ami’s annual Blessing of the Animals celebrates God’s creatures that grace our lives.

Bring your favorite animal companions (dog, cat, rabbit, bearded dragon, guinea pig, or other furry, feathered, or scaly friend) to join you for a special blessing and ceremony affirming the special role our beloved pets play in our lives.

We collect pet care items (dog & cat food, pet beds, blankets, and more) to donate to local animal shelters and animal rescue organizations. Animal care/welfare organizations also participate in our event and help us learn how we can better help our animal friends in need. We invite you to join us to have your pets blessed by Rabbi Rebecca Riece, to help other animals in need, and to enjoy some family-friendly fun: photo booth, door prizes, yummy dog and people treats, and more!

2017 Blessing of the Animals - SAVE THE DATE! SUNDAY, JUNE 4, 2017, 1:00-3:00pm at Anderson Mill West Park

Mark your calendars! Congregation Shir Ami's annual Blessing of the Animals event will be on Sunday, June 4, 2017, from 1:00-3:00pm, at Anderson Mill West Park (on El Salido Parkway in Cedar Park). We will be meeting under the pavilion, so there will be plenty of shade, and we plan to be there rain or shine. We hope you will join us!

This is a light, fun, family-friendly, free event that is open and welcoming to people (and pets!) of all faiths. You can participate in any way you would like--bring your pets for the blessing, visit our vendor fair, bring items to donate to the Williamson County Animal Shelter, and more!

Rabbi Rebecca Reice will conduct a short service and will individually bless all of the animals present. Our featured guest speaker this year is Misty Valenta, volunteer coordinator at the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter, which we will be accepting donated goods for. To see a list of needed shelter items, please go to: http://pets.wilco.org/Portals/7/DonateShop/Donation%20List-01-23-15.pdf.

A variety of other businesses and organizations will also be at our vendor fair for you to visit with.

To stay up to date on the event, please see the event listing on our Facebook page.  All are welcome to attend and we hope to see you on June 4th!

2016 Blessing of the Animals

BlessingOfAnimals2016Our 2016 Blessing of the Animals event was a great success!!  We met on Sunday, May 22nd, 2016, from 1:00-2:30pm at the Anderson Mill West Park (on El Salido Parkway in Cedar Park next to Cypress Elementary). Rabbi Rebecca Riece led a warm and wonderful service which included joyful songs, blessings for our animal companions, a prayer to remember our beloved animal companions who have passed from this world, a call to action to address the plight of companion animals in need, a ceremonial walk around the park, and fun activities for both our human and animal friends who were there.

We collected many items which were donated to the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter, and honored our primary event beneficiary for 2016, Puppy Mill Awareness Day Texas (http://pmadtx.org).
